ATI-E in Petaling Jaya & Sandakan, September 2018

Over the long weekend, Anglican Training Institute Extension (ATI-E) courses took place at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Sandakan and Faith Christian Centre, Petaling Jaya. In Sandakan, 20 students joined the course on “Basic Christianity” in BM by Archdeacon Lidis Singkung from 7-10 September. Across the sea in Petaling Jaya from 9-11 September, 23 students were taught by Dean Musa Ambai on “Introduction on the Bible” in BM, while 11 students were taught by Rev Lee Ban Wee on the same subject in Chinese.

Are you working and unable to attend classes during working hours but would like to equip yourself for ministry through studying theology? ATI-E courses might be the answer for you, as they are held in the evenings and weekends. With a minimum of 10 enrolments, ATI will organise and customise classes for a venue near you.

Semester 3 of the Diocese’s Anglican Training Insitute (ATI) is currently ongoing at All Saints’ Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu. Among the subjects which ATI students are studying this semester are Reformation Church History, Advanced New Testament Studies and the Pauline Letters. New ATI-Extension (ATI-E) Program Launched in KK & Sandakan

The Anglican Training Institute (ATI) recently conducted its Extension programme (ATI-E) in All Saints’ Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu, and St. Michael’s and All Angels Church, Sandakan. From July 5th to 8th 2018, the modules Introduction of the Bible and Basic Christianity were conducted for a total of 52 students. These modules were taught by outstanding tutors—Introduction to the Bible by Dr Brian Birkett and Rev Canon Lin Khee Vun; Basic Christianity by Dr Kim Chang Kyu and Rev Dr Lee Tak Vui. ATI would like to give a big shout-out to the hosting churches for their support to make ATI-E possible.

Institut Pelatihan Anglikan (ATI) baru-baru ini telah menjalankan program Kembangan (ATI-E) di Katedral All Saints, Kota Kinabalu dan Gereja St Michael, Sandakan. Dari 5-8 Julai 2018, modul Pengenalan Kepada Alkitab dan Asas Agama Kristian telah dijalankan untuk sejumlah 52 orang pelajar. Modul-modul ini diajar oleh tutor yang cemerlang, iaitu Dr Brian Birkett dan Rev Canon Lin Khee Vun untuk Pengenalan Kepada Alkitab; dan Dr Kim Chang Kyu dan Rev Dr Lee Tak Vui untuk Asas Agama Kristian. ATI ingin mengucap ribuan terima kasih kepada gereja-gereja yang menjadi “tuan rumah” atas sokongan mereka untuk menjayakan program ATI-E ini.

Practical Ministry Modules Book 1

How do you respond to someone who asks you, ‘how do I know the will of God?’ or ‘how do I read the Bible?’ We are glad to introduce a newly published training manual which not only answers questions like the above but also covers the bulk of our practical ministry needs. We are please to announce that Book 1 of the Practical Ministry Module is now published and made available for purchase. All Diocesan Certificate of Ministry level of our training is based on these modules and it is our aim that all pastors and ministers are trained to be effective in these ministry areas. So if your church has a worker who is currently trained in the School of Ministry and Mission (to be renamed Anglican Training Institute), this book will serve as the training manual for him or her. If you wish to have a trainer who can train your church members in these modules, you are welcome to contact us or send a student to our Diocesan Certificate of Ministry Programme!

ATI 6th Graduation Service 2018

The Anglican Training Institute (ATI) celebrated its Sixth Graduation and Evening Service in All Saints’ Cathedral on 15 May 2018. Faculty and board members, students, families and friends have come together to celebrate the achievements of the graduates. Among the 34 graduates were 6 students who were awarded the Bachelor of Theology degree; 13 who received the Diploma of Theology; and 15 who received the Certificate of Theology. Special guest of honour, Archbishop of Southeast Asia, the Right Reverend Dato Ng Moon Hing, delivered the commencement sermon; followed by the conferring of earned awards. The degrees were conferred by Bishop Melter Jiki Tais.

 The occasion was also marked by the introduction of a new program, ATI Extension Program (ATI-E). ATI-E is a part-time modular theological program, offered in the evenings and weekends to accommodate students who cannot commit to residential studies. Pop-up classes will be delivered in various locations. With a minimum of 10 enrolment, ATI will organize and customize classes to a venue near you. Graduation Service 2017

6 Bachelor, 8 Diploma and 22 Certificate of Theology students graduated on 9 May, 2017 at the 5th Graduation Ceremony and Evening Prayer held at the All Saints Cathedral.

The principal, the Revd. Canon Lin Khee Vun presented the graduating students to the the Diocesan Bishop, the Right Revd. Melter Tais. The Bishop subsequently conferred the earned awards to the graduating students.


Opening and Graduation Service 2015

The Opening and Graduation Service for 2015 took place on 15 January, 2015 at Hosanna Hall, All Saints Cathedral. A last batch of 9 students graduated with the Diocesan Certificate of Ministry (DCM), which has since been upgraded into Diploma of Theology (Dip.Th). The Vicar General, the Rt. Revd. Melter Tais gave a commissioning sermon, while the Principal, the Revd. Canon Lin Khee Vun presented his annual address on the progress of ATI.

Anglican Training Institute (ATI) is delighted to welcome these new faculty members to its ranks.


Dr Kim Chang-Kyu earned his PhD in Theological Studies from Trinity College, University of Bristol. He also holds a BA in Theological Studies (Trinity College) and BEng/Bus (Hansung University).Prior to joining ATI, he was a Senior Lecturer at Msalato Theological College, Tanzania. During his tenure in Msalato Theological College, he has served as the Head of Theology.He is married to Lee So-Ra and they serve together in teaching and missions.

His published works include Balthasar Hubmaier’s Doctrine of Salvation in Dynamic and Relational Perspective (Pickwick Publications, USA) and a review on H. Wayne Walker Pipkin, Scholar, Pastor, Martyr: The Life and Ministry of Balthasar Hubmaier (ca. 1480-1528) – Baptist Quarterly Review Vol. 43, No. 3, July 2009 (International Baptist Theological Seminary of the European Baptist Federation, o.p.s. 2008).


Lee So-Ra received her MA in Theological Studies from Trinity College, University of Bristol with a dissertation entitled “The Contribution of 1 Corinthians to Paul’s Understanding of Leadership”. She also holds a Diploma in Higher Education in Theological Studies (Trinity College) and BA in Education (Ewha Womans University).Prior to joining ATI, she taught Applied Theology at Msalato Theological College, Tanzania.She is married to Dr. Kim Chang-Kyu.
